Apple Butter

Apple Butter is not some this we hear about in Australia very often, so I thought I would look up a recipe and give it a try. I puled out the slow cooker and add all the ingredients then left it to work it magic. I added a bit from different recipe that I like the sound of and came up with my own recipe.

11/2 kg Apples
1/2 cup Apple cider
3/4 tsp Cinnamon
1/4 tsp ginger
1/8 tsp cloves
Let it cook down to the consistency you want, mine was in the slow cooker for about 8 hours, then  blend it with a stick blender.
Place into sterilised jars.

  5. Not heard of this before but by the look of the ingredients, I think I would like it and it's such a good way of using up excess apples. I'll keep this one until autumn and give it a go! x

  11. Hi there - thanks for leaving a comment on my post - I'm pretty sure the weather you're having over in Sydney at the moment is a bit different to ours - sigh! I love the idea of apple butter - apparently one of the upsides of our cold Spring here in the UK is the promise of bumper crops of apples in the Autumn - this would be a perfect way to use them (great for presents too) Nice to meet you x Jane

  15. I love apple butter- when I lived in North Carolina, friends would have an Apple Butter making weekend. Gallons of it was made using a huge copper pan on a fire outside. It was cooked slowly over night and we would all take turns to stir, staying up until the early hours and then continuing in the morning. It was then a great production line of bottling it all. It's lovely on toast, or crumpets, or scones or American biscuits.
