Cockatoo Island

Cockatoo Island is a heritage-listed Island in the middle of beautiful Sydney Harbour, It is a former imperial prison, industrial school, reformatory and gaol. It is also the site of one of Australia's biggest shipyards during the twentieth century. The first of it's dry docks was built by convicts in 1857.

We hopped on on ferry with friends of ours for a beautiful day out, we wandered around the Island at our own pace with the kids running and climbing to their hearts content. There was an Art exhibition on so we had lots to see and do.

We had packed a picnic lunch so when the time came we found a spot with a view and enjoyed our lunch.

  1. It looks absolutely beautiful there. My 4x grandad was a transported convict to Aus and I have very romantic ideas of it all.I'm sure it wasnt romantic at all, just hard work but its lovely that things have been preserved for all to see.
