Petersham is know for its large Portuguese community which is reflected in the many Portuguese businesses and restaurants. And this is where we set off for on Saturday morning.
I have read that the Portuguese tarts at Sweet Belem are some of the best in Sydney, the pastry was so flaky and the custard so fresh that it just melted in your mouth.
Giant hot pits of coal, iron cages filled with chickens and queues out the door. Make sure you order the chicken at Silva's, it's tender, perfectly seasoned and the garlic sauce is the best.
We had an enjoyable day wandering around Petersham.
Thanks for the interesting post...I especially love the last photo. I am glad you had a good and yummy visit :-)

ReplyDeleteUntil I saw your post, I had never thought about Portuguese restaurants. They are not prominent in the Denver area, let me tell you! Portugal is a country I'd very much like to visit ~ even more so, now that you've introduced me to their pastries and custards! Have a good day!

We always buy a few of those tarts or "Pastéis de nata" when we go on holiday to Portugal. Sumol is my son's favourite drink there and the salted cod is the main part of our traditional Christmas dinner although it's consumed all year long.
ReplyDeleteI buy my fish from a Portuguese fish monger. He always has the best fish recipes that he shares. The pastries look delicious.
ReplyDeleteHowdy would you mind stating which blog platform you're working with? I'm planning to
ReplyDeletestart my own blog in the near future but I'm having a tough time making a decision between BlogEngine/Wordpress/B2evolution and Drupal. The reason I ask is because your design seems different then most blogs and I'm looking for something completely unique.
P.S Apologies for being off-topic but I had to ask!
Here is my blog; bet angel
