Petersham is know for its large Portuguese community which is reflected in the many Portuguese businesses and restaurants. And this is where we set off for on Saturday morning.
I have read that the Portuguese tarts at Sweet Belem are some of the best in Sydney, the pastry was so flaky and the custard so fresh that it just melted in your mouth.
Giant hot pits of coal, iron cages filled with chickens and queues out the door. Make sure you order the chicken at Silva's, it's tender, perfectly seasoned and the garlic sauce is the best.
We had an enjoyable day wandering around Petersham.
