French Butter Cookies (Bones) #CreativeCookieExchange

This months theme for the Creative Cookie Exchange is Halloween. Halloween is not something celebrated in Australia much but it is growing in momentum each year. I was trying to think of cookies I could make with out have to buy new cookie cutters, I have a bone shape cookie cutter so I came up with the idea making these French Butter Cookies (Bones). Before I added the fondant my family thought I had mad dog biscuits.

French Butter Cookies

250gm (1 cup) (2 sticks) butter, room temperature
2/3 cup packed light brown sugar
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 1/2 cups sifted flour
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup granulated sugar
Add the egg and vanilla, mixing thoroughly.about 2 to 3 minutes.
Gradually add the flour and salt, mixing on low speed until just combined.
plastic and refrigerate for at least one hour to overnight.

When ready to bake, preheat the oven to 180C- 350 degrees F, and placing a rack in the centre.
Prepare a cookie tray by lining it with baking paper.
Remove  from the fridge and roll using the cookie cutter cut desired shape .
Bake for about 15-20 minutes, or until lightly golden brown. Transfer cookies to a wire rack so that they can cool completely. I used a little corn syrup on each of the cookies, then added fondant cut with the same cookie cutter

  3. Your cookies are really neat-- you made the fondant come alive on the skulls. I haven't tried topping cookies with fondant and would like to try it.
